Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon, our first event!
Come join the University of Toronto’s newest science policy group, the Toronto Science Policy Network (TSPN), in our kick-off event: a Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon! The goal of #TSPNWikiEdit18 is to create and update Wikipedia pages for Canadian scientists to highlight their scientific research, role in science policy and/or science communication.
At #TSPNWikiEdit18, we’ll teach you how to edit a Wikipedia page in a short crash course, and then we’ll edit Wikipedia together in three structured sessions.
We are partnering with the University of Toronto’s Libraries (specifically the Inforum Library) to host this free event. We are also partnering with different student groups to host hubs on specific topics (see below).
TSPN will provide a target list of Wikipedia pages with a focus on women and individuals belonging to marginalized groups (as Wikipedia’s gender gap and racial bias is well-documented), but we welcome all edit-a-thon attendees to create and/or update pages they are interested in. Do you have a suggestion? Feel free to share it with us on social media using the hashtag #TSPNWikiEdit18, or via this Google sheet!
To make the most of the event, please bring your own laptop, and your own mug for refreshments. Food and coffee/tea will be provided.
All members of the University of Toronto community are welcome to join. Participants from other institutions with eduroam access are also welcome! Please let us know your coming by registering on Eventbrite. Don’t worry the event is totally free!
